Guanidine, saponin and tannin were tested for their effect on the multiplication of echovirus 9 (Hill) and its hot and cold mutants in Cercopithecus monkey kidney cell cultures. Tannin inhibited or markedly decreased virus titer compared with controls. This effect was observed during adsorption and penetration of the virus into the cell.
