Ultrastructural study of intra-erythrocyte inclusions in some haemolytic syndrome

An ultrastructural study was carried out to compare the intraerythrocytic inclusions found in the following deficiency; Koln hemoglobinopathy; .alpha.-thalassemia (H hemoglobinopathy); C hemoglobinopathy; and sickle cell anemia (S hemoglobinopathy). Reticulocytes were also included in this comparative study, both in normal conditions and in some hemolytic syndromes. The results are analyzed with regard to the literature; concurrence is only partial. Pathophysiological mechanisms by which intaerythrocytic inclusions may lead to hemolysis are discussed.
