Aqueous humor dynamics in man studied by topical fluorescein: an analysis by a method of least squares

After topical instillation, fluorescein enters the anterior chamber through the cornea, where it is lost by aqueous bulk flow and diffusion into the blood. The time course of the dye concentration in the anterior chamber aqueous was fitted to a bi-exponential equation of Jones and Maurice. Using it and the mean value of the fluorescein transfer coefficient from the cornea to the anterior chamber (kca), the loss coefficient from the aqueous (ko) was calculated and averaged 0.86 .+-. 0.24 (10-2 .cntdot. min-1). These values differed considerably from those of Jones and Maurice who analyzed the data by a peeling method. Other problems inherent to the method were discussed. Further studies are needed to elucidate this discrepancy.
