Morphological changes in the liver and spleen in 10 cases of permanent hemodialysis for chronic renal insufficiency were presented. The duration of the dialyzing program ranged from 1-40 mo. In some cases intensified activity of the RES was observed, with hemosiderosis and enlargement of the organs. The quickest reaction was shown by Kupffer cells of the liver. The intensity of the changes paralleled the duration of dialysis, and a correlation with the quantity of blood administered was also found. The changes observed cannot be solely a response to the impact of hemosiderosis. They are apparently also a result of intensifying immunological activity.
