Prognostic value of free fatty acids in endemic hepatosplenomegaly

Clinical, parasitological and laboratory investigations were carried out in 30 patients with hepato-intestinal schistosomiasis without ascites (15 cases) or with ascites (15 cases). Raised levels of free fatty acids were found in the sera of all 30 patients (as compared to 10 normal controls); the increases were higher among patients with ascites.
