Somatic and egg squashes of Ctenocephalides orientis (Jordan) (pest of domestic cats and dogs and an intermediate host of dog and rodent tapeworms) exhibited a chromosome complement of 2n=14, XY/XX, whereas the spermatocytes showed 2n=15, XY1Y2. The sex trivalent only occurred in spermatogenesis; in oogenesis, only 1 sex bivalent was formed. The elimination of one of the Y chromosomes from the somatic cells was evident.
