Numerous signs in clinical practice demonstrate that the routinely examined parameters of human sperm do not provide a good estimate of the ejaculate's fertilizing ability. An analysis of these parameters was undertaken to determine which of these parameters (alone or in combination) represent optimal diagnostic capabilities. Discriminative analysis was applied for this study. The examinations were performed on sperm samples donated by 3322 men (childless as well as fertile). The performed analysis demonstrated that the evaluation of the fertilizing capability of sperm was optimal when the following parameters were considered: the percent of motile sperms after spontaneous liquefaction, the survival time of the sperms, the percent of abnormal spermatozoa and the percent of immature spermatozoa. It was demonstrated also that the male factor may be a cause of sterility in 44.09% and that the routinely checked parameters of ejaculate provide about 25% of information concerning the fertilizing potency of the tested ejaculates.
