Mass surveys of the human population by the latex agglutination test (LAT) with echinococcal diagnostic preparation of long-term storage revealed a considerable percentage of positive results, especially among the rural population. The highest LAT values were found in the subjects of 30-49 yr. Among cattle breeders and shepherds the percentage of positive LAT results was higher than among other occupational groups of rural residents. According to the serological surveys, the subjects having permanent or occasional contacts with dogs had echinococcal invasion in greater number of cases than subjects without contacts with dogs. This mass immunological survey of the Armenian republic population for echinococcosis established the districts most strongly invaded, and the contingents of the highest risk of infestation. These data may be used for planning of purposeful measures for human echinococcosis prevention.
