Administration of an antigen composed of a homogenate of rabbit heart with .beta.-hemolytic streptococcus does not lead to the liberation of histamine from the tissues of intact animals. The liberation of histamine induced by the specific antigen is displayed and reveals characteristic dynamics only in rats with experimental myocarditis and arthritis. Neonatal thymectomy inhibits histamine liberation. Experimental myocarditis, arthritis and neonatal thymectomy cause no changes in histamine liberation induced by compound 48/80.
