The axonal endings of the neuromuscular junctions of mixed muscles (m. quadriceps, m. diaphragma) and of the muscle with prevailing red fibers (m. soleus) taken from rats after 2 space flights under identical conditions in Biosputniks 782 and 936 were examined and compared. Degenerative changes of the axonal endings of the neuromuscular junctions occurred in all examined muscles. The changes differed in intensity. Most important quantitative and qualitative disturbances concerned reduction of the number of synaptic vesicles, swelling mitochondria and partial obliteration of the folds in the axonal endings of the soleus muscle. These changes are apparently grade I degeneration of axonal endings.
