For at least 12 months 8 nondiabetic and 6 diabetic patients with type V hyperlipoproteinaemia were treated with weight reduction and a National Institutes of Health type V diet. Plasma triglycerides fell in all 14 patients in response to diet alone or with insulin. Patients lost 4 to 12 kg. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations in plasma did not rise to normal in any patient.
