A new strain of sulfate reducing bacteria was isolated from swampy forest soil. After 120 h reduction, sulfate conversion attained 100%, the molar ratio of the consumed lactate and reduced sulfate amounted to 2:1. This confirms the reduction mechanism proposed by Senez (1951).
