Whether and to what degree methyl mercuric chloride influences liver lipid metabolism was studied. The studies were performed in white rats that were divided into 4 groups. Group I comprised control rats. Animals administered aqueous solution of methyl mercuric chloride (0.2 mg/kg per day intragastrically) for a 3 wk belonged to group II. The rats in groups III and IV were administered methyl mercuric chloride in a dose of 0.4 mg/kg per day (group III) and in a dose of 0.8 mg/kg per day (group IV). In the liver tissue free fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol and total lipids were determined. Changes were noted in some compounds of the lipid metabolism. A drop in the level of free fatty acids in the liver with a simultaneous rise in the triglycerides concentration was noted. No significant changes in the behavior of cholesterol and in that of total lipids were found.
