A review was presented on characteristics of vitamin A as an antiblastic agent which was supported by various experiments using animals (hamsters, rats, mice and rabbits) and clinical observations (human). Regulatory effects of vitamin A on processes of epithelial tissue differentiation, immunological reactions stimulated by vitamin A, mechanisms of cellular immunity, use of vitamin A for selectively damaging lysosomal membranes of tumor cells and the use of vitamin A synthetic analogs (retinoids) were discussed.
