Eterylate is 2.0-2.5 times less toxic than benorylate and acetylsalicylic acid, respectively, by oral acute toxicity studies in mice. Gastrointestinal lesions induced by these 3 compounds during 4 and 24 wk could be classified as follows: eterylate < benorylate < acetylsalicyclic acid. Studies of ulcer production and fecal blood loss apparently also show that eterylate is better tolerated than benorylate and acetylsalicylic acid.
