Protein content of certain subcellular fractions, ATPase and succinate and isocitrate dehydrogenase activities in rat brain, liver, kidney and lung show a change under acute hypoxia. In most cases, these constituents tend to return to their basal values under chronic hypoxia. More than 42 days of exposure evidently is required for the completion of the process of metabolic adaptation to hypoxia.
