Brief reviews are given of the techniques which have contributed to progress in the following fields: evaluation of semen quality; the ultrastructure and biochemical properties of spermatozoa; the spermatogenic and androgenic activity of the testis; the freezing and storage of semen and AI; appraisal of the functional state of male accessory organs by the chemical analysis of seminal plasma.
