Cholesterol and free fatty acids in the placenta, maternal and cord sera of under-nourished mothers

Mothers belonging to lower socioeconomic groups showed decreases in values of Hb, serum protein, albumin and weight of the placenta. Cord serum albumin did not change with maternal nutritional status. The decrease in maternal and cord serum cholesterol and free fatty acids in lower socioeconomic groups was not significant. Placental cholesterol did not change and placental free fatty acids were significantly lower in socioeconomic group III + IV than in group I.
