Biliary secretion of cholesterol, phospholipids, and free fatty acids (FFA) in rats treated with glucagon

Rats on a standard diet were deprived of food for 18 to 24 h before the experiment. Bile was collected during 2 h, with blood samples taken before and after collection. Half the rats were given glucagon by muscle immediately after cannulation of the bile duct while the remaining rats were given saline. Free fatty acids (FFA) in serum and bile and bilirubin, phospholipids and cholesterol in bile were estimated. Glucagon increased cholesterol in the bile and FFA in serum decreased; FFA in serum of control rats increased.
