The effect of polychlorimine (poly-N-(2-chloroethyl)ethyleneimine), iodohydrate (2-chloroethyl-2-iodoethylamine) and the oxalate salt of polychlorimine monomer on tissue respiration, aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis, ATP levels and ATPase activity was studied in transplanted tumors in rats (sarcoma M-1 and sarcoma S-45) and mice (Ehrlich ascites tumor). All 3 drugs showed a similar action on the tumors studied, expressed in a suppression of respiration and glycolysis with a corresponding reduction in the ATP levels and increase in ATPase activity. The extent of these effects was a function of the antineoplastic activity of the different drugs with respect to the different tumors, as well as a function of the drug dose.
