In 5 villages in Iran, 210 people (mostly children) infected with Giardia lamblia were treated with tinidazole at 50 mg/kg body-weight for children weighing less than 40 kg and 2 g for adults and children over 40 kg. The follow-up on 165 people by faecal examination daily for 3 days, beginning 4 days after treatment, indicated an average cure rate of 94.5% (range 90 to 96.2%). Side effects were mild and transient.
