The effect of verapamil on glucose-induced insulin release and on insulin-induced growth hormone (GH) release were studied in normal subjects. A dose-dependent effect of verapamil caused a precocious deficit and a late secondary rise in glucose-induced insulin release. Serum GH, during continuous verapamil infusion, in some subjects increases steadily during infusion, while in others there is a rapid enhancement and then a rapid fall of serum GH. Possible interpretations of the data are discussed.
