Mice of CBA T6T6 strain fed Mg-deficient diet developed an increase in the number of neutrophil granulocytes, showed positive cytochemical reaction for acid phosphatase (AP). Mg deficiency did not significantly influence the total index of AP activity in these cells. Zn deficiency induced a decrease in the number of neutrophil granulocytes, including the decrease in AP-negative granulocytes. In mice fed Zn-deficient diet the total index of AP activity was lower in a statistically significant way than in controls. The importance of these findings was discussed in view of an evaluation of the immune state in experimental Zn and Mg deficiency.
