In 100 human hearts the origin and course of arterial branches in the region of the posterior interventricular sulcus were studied, showing markedly differentiated arterial supply of this cardiac area. Differences and similarities of the course and area supplied by the branches permitted distinction of 6 basic types of vascularity of the heart muscle in the region of the posterior interventricular sulcus.
