In 70 patients with advanced hypertension ultrasonographic investigations were carried out evaluating the frequency of asymmetrical ventricular septum hypertrophy. In patients with echocardiographic evidence of left ventricular hypertrophy asymmetrical ventricular septum hypertrophy was found with a 1.5 or greater ratio of septal thickness to the thickness of the posterior wall of the left ventricle in 20% of cases. On the basis of USG demonstration of asymmetrical ventricular septum hypertrophy as the only abnormality in hypertension hypertrophic cardiomyopathy should not be dianosed.
