Efficacy of three forms of oxibendazole against gastrointestinal parasites of ponies

In critical trials, oxibendazole was given orally to 4 groups of 5 naturally infected ponies at 10 mg/kg body-weight as a 10% suspension (followed by 2.4 ml carbon disulphide/45.45 kg body-weight against bots), as hand-fed 3 or 7% pellets or 28% tablets. Worm counts on the faeces and at autopsy after 6 days showed that the treatments were completely or almost completely effective against adult large and small strongyles, Oxyuris equi, Probstmayria vivipara and adult Parascaris equorum. A high efficacy (except with 3% pellets) was also demonstrated against small 4th-stage strongyle larvae.
