Efficacy of ivermectin against anthelmintic resistant isolates of sheep nematode parasites

Groups of 10 lambs, artificially infected with Haemonchus contortus resistant to benzimidazoles and Trichostrongylus colubriformis resistant to levamisole, were treated with ivermectin (200 micro g/kg subcutaneously or orally), parbendazole, oxfendazole, fenbendazole, albendazole, febantel, or levamisole, or left untreated, and killed after 7 days. Worm counts showed that oral ivermectin was 100% effective against both species, while injectable ivermectin was 94-100% effective.
