Oligonitrophilic microorganisms produce extracellular mucous substances intensively. The specific weight of these substances on the N-free medium relative to the total weight of the grown biomass is higher than on media with bound forms of N. In Pseudomonas, Azotomonas and Bacillus, they account for 73.9-93.1% and in Mycobacterium for 44.5-59.7%. The amount of protein is 1.9-7.2, and nucleic acid and P are not found.
