The oligonitrophilic bacteria of the Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Mycobacterium genera can utilize extracellular polysaccharides synthesized by these microorganisms as a substrate of dehydrogenase. Differences are determined in the dehydrogenase activity of the oligonitrophils depending on the uptake of their own polysaccharides and polysaccharides produced by other oligonitrophilic bacteria. Most strains had a more active effect on polysaccharides preparations than on sucrose. The utilization of extracellular polysaccharides by oligonitrophils increased with the concentration of fixed N in the medium for growing these microorganisms. Typical saprophytic bacteria, which are the companions of oligonitrophils, can utilize extracellular polysaccharides produced by oligonitrophils. This indicates a role of these substances in the formation of microbial associations in soil.
