Changes in the functional activity of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal neurosecretory system in acute experimental pancreatitis

Changes in the hypothalamo-hypophyseal neurosecretory system were studied in 29 dogs 6 h and 1, 7 and 30 days after development of acute experimental pancreatitis. Pancreatitis led to an increase of neurosecretory system activity manifested in hypersecretion of the cells of the neurosecretory nuclei, complete loss of neurosecretion from the posterior lobe of the hypophysis and dilation of the hypophysis vascular wall. After paranephral novocaine blockade the activity of neurosecretory nuclei cells increased moderately, a considerable quantity of neurosecretion was preserved in neurohypophysis, i.e. there were no signs of overstraining of the neurosecretory system.
