Rats, 4 weeks old, were given for 66 days a diet containing 10% linseed oil which had been heated at 275 deg C for 12 h; control rats were pairfed with unheated oil. As in liver and adipose tissue studied previously (see NAR 45, 8705) heated oil in the diet increased the content of palmitoleic acid in total fatty acids of testes and adrenals; linoleic acid and the sum of omega 3 polyunsaturated acids decreased, linolenic acid almost disappeared, omega 6 unsaturated acids increased and long-chain polyunsaturated acids of an unusual structure appeared.
