Determination of the volume of the damaged portion of the myocardium in the early stages of acute cytotoxic destruction of the heart

Hearts of 16 dogs were studied 1-1.5 h after intracoronary administration of 1.5-2 ml of the anticardial cytotoxic sera [ACS from rabbit who were given dog heart homogenates]. The volume of myocardial damage was determined by a change in the dehydrogenase activity in the heart macroscopic sections. The local character of local myocardial damage with intracoronary administration of ACS was established. The myocardial volume affected 1-1.5 h after the beginning of the reaction varied from 4-30%, and the average was 15 .+-. 3.4%. A different degree of myocardial areas affected is confirmed by the histochemical method detecting myocardial fibers affected with ischemia.
