The following non-invasive methods for determining stroke volume were compared: The Starr, Bremser-Ranke, Wexler-Boger and Lijestrand-Zander methods. Changes in stroke volume were compared to dynamic shifts in the vectorcardiogram. Vectorcardiograms of 25 human patients with cardiac fibrillation were studied and compared to those of healthy individuals. The study showed that if half the amount of diastolic pressure were added to the difference in systolic and diastolic pressure, it is possible to obtain a stroke volume value closer to that obtained by direct method.
