Various means of decreasing intra-individual variability in repeated nerve conduction velocity determinations and thus increasing possibilities of finding inter-individual differences were tested and discussed. Digital signal averaging technique should be used for determining the latencies of the action potentials and an average of the conduction velocity of several peripheral nerves for better diagnosis of polyneuropathy. Preheating the limbs before nerve conduction velocity measurements seemed to be a time-consuming and uncertain method for controlling temperature in routine work.
