This motor nerve conduction velocity (NCV) meter combined electronic determination of conduction times in man with an automatic measurement of distance. The automated NCV meter was designed to reduce sources of error and improve the ease of determining nerve conduction velocities. This device was portable and able to determine conduction velocity rapidly and accurately. It was comparatively inexpensive; the cost of building the prototype was less than $500.00, exclusive of design and engineering time. The automated NCV meter electronically measures the proximal latency, distal latency and the distance between the 2 cathodes and calculates and displays the NCV.
