This analysis is based on a retrospective study of 100 cases of cholestatic jaundice. The level of cholestasis was undetermined in 13/100, was determined incorrectly in 6/100, and was determined correctly in 81/100 of the cases. Despite the introduction of new techniques of investigation, laparoscopy should be the 1st endoscopic examination to be performed in patients with cholestasis.
