The amplitude and shape of T- and H were investigated. The shape of the potentials was compared with the shape of single motor unit(MU)potentials. The shape of the T-potentials, like the shape of the H-potentials, depended on the shape of the single MU potentials with a dominating amplitude. The shape of the T-potentials could be interpreted as a superposition of the MU potentials. The monopolarly recorded T-potentials were 2-3 ms longer than the monopolarly recorded H-potentials. The amplitude and shape of the bipolarly recorded T-potentials were related to the differences in the amplitude of the monopolarly recorded T-potentials from both electrodes and in some cases to the non-simultaneous timing of the maxima of these potentials. Due to the longer duration of the T-potentials, in the case of equal amplitude of the monopolarly recorded H- and T-potentials, the amplitude of the same potentials recorded bipolarly may differ, as the amplitude of the T-potentials was lower. Only the monopolar recording is suitable for comparison of the amplitudes of the H and T-potentials (H/T ratio).
