In 6 horses of different breeds and sex after a single oral administration of the trimethoprim/sulfadimidin suspension ROTα-TS Oraldoser (Chassot & Cie AG, Köniz Bern), the original substances of the suspension within the biological material have been measured. The dosis was 336 mg trimethoprim and 1680 mg sulfadimidin per 100 kg body weight. The measurements showed that the maximum plasma concentration of both active substances appeared after about 1.5 h. Whilst trimethoprim can hardly be found in the plasma already after 4 h, sulfadimidin still appears after 24 h in low concentrations in the plasma. In the organs, 24 h after administration, none of the 2 substances could be shown anymore.
