In studies in Indonesia in 1975-76, skin tests with extracts of house dust and the house-dust mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trt.) were performed on 106 children under 12 years of age with respiratory allergy. About 67% of the children reacted to the dust, indicating that the dust was the most important allergen to such children. About 73% of the children that reacted to the dust also reacted to the mite; this suggested that the mite was the most important component in the dust.
