Studies on dust in the houses of 17 asthmatic patients sensitised to house dust were carried out for December 1973 to November 1974 in Bucharest, Romania. In monthly samples, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trt.) was found to vary in numbers in 13 houses, being most abundant in September and October and with a smaller peak in March. In 2 houses, there was a constant high level of mites, and in another 2 there were no mites. It is suggested that preventive and curative measures should be applied to the patients prior to the periods when peak numbers of mites are found.
