Effect of fluoride on the serum lipids of guinea pigs

Guineapigs were given high or low levels of fat in their diet and fluoride in their drinking water. The difference in fluoride intake was reflected in serum fluoride content. In guineapigs given excess cholesterol, an inadequate fluoride intake was reflected in increased serum cholesterol. Fluoride intake also affected serum triglyceride but the response was dependent on the amount of dietary fat. Serum free fatty acids and phospholipids were not influenced by fluoride intake.
