A 10% aqueous ethanolic extract of the stem bark showed anti-tumour activity. A new phytoquinoid derivative, jacaranone, was isolated and proved to be active. Also isolated were beta -sitosterol, betulinic acid, ursolic acid, 2 alpha -hydroxyursolic acid, 2 alpha ,3 alpha -dihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid and a new triterpene acid jacarandic acid.
