Separation and purification of an enzymatic preparation from Bacillus mesentericus

The complex enzymic preparation was isolated from B. mesentericus, strain 316 M. The preparation was purified and separated by ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose into 2 fractions. According to the data of ultracentrifugation and disc electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel the 1st fraction was not homogeneous and consisted of 6 protein components, 4 of which possessed common proteolytic and elastolytic activities. The 2nd fraction was active only with respect to elastase.
