Levoristatin, an antibiotic used to control undesirable fish, may cause dysbacteriosis in workers exposed to it. A single peroral administration of 1/20 LD50 and long-term administration of 1/100-1/500 LD50 induced dysbacteriosis in rats. The antibiotic decreased the number of Escherichia coli and fungi and increased number of lactose-negative Escherichia and Proteus. These effects should be considered in establishing safety measures for individuals working with or exposed to this antibiotic.
