Pelodera strongyloides dermatitis in a horse in Iowa

A horse in Iowa, USA, had persistent dry exfoliative dermatitis with pustules. Scrapings contained many larvae of Pelodera (Rhabditis) strongyloides. After a bath was given to remove exudate, the horse was successfully treated with thiabendazole plus dimethyl sulphoxide applied over the lesions. Correction of the unsanitary stabling conditions prevented re-infection.
