B. bacteriovorus multiplication and bacteriolytic activities depend on the total number of microorganisms present and on the water temperature. In summer at an average river water temperature of 23.6.degree. C, B. bacteriovorus took an active part in the purification of the Oka river [Russian SFSR, USSR] and caused a significant decrease in the number of microorganisms.
