Dendrite bundles of the ventral horn cells of the thoracic portion of the spinal cord in cats

Using Golgi's method, the position of neurons and their dendrites in the horizontal plane in the ventral horns of the thoracic portion of the spinal cord was studied in mature cats. In the gray substance of the ventral horns, the longest dendrites of the neurons formed bundles arranged in the long axis of the spinal cord. This applied mainly to the large neurons, a majority of the medium neurons and many of the small ones. The bundles of dendrites in the ventral horns were formed mainly from cells grouped in the same cell column and were joined by the processes of peripheral cells belonging to other columns in the gray substance of the ventral horns. Cells sending dendrites to the ventral and lateral funiculi and to the white commissure were also seen. The physiology of these cells was discussed.
