The study was carried out with the aim of improvement of Harris' alum hematoxylin formula. In presented modified formula toxic mercuric oxide (2.5 g) is substituted by potassium iodate (0.55 g). Alum hematoxylin solution prepared according to suggested formula retains high quality of original Harris' hematoxylin.
