A study of Australia antigen, cold antibodies and ABO blood group frequencies in Ladakhies

Ladakhies dwell in a comparatively isolated valley in India at an altitude .gtoreq. 11,500 ft. The incidence of Australia antigen, cold antibodies and ABO blood group frequencies in 144 of these people was studied. HBAg incidence was significantly higher among them than among a control population at Delhi. The original inhabitants of Ladakh and people stationed there for some time show a high incidence of cold antibodies with titer level higher than the control population at Delhi. ABO blood group frequencies in the Ladakhies showed the O-blood group to be predominant instead of the expected B-blood group.
