Study on the hepatitis-B virus surface anti-antigen antibody using a radioimmunologic method in solid phase and using passive hemagglutination

The sera of 90 individuals were studied by 2 sensitive methods for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and the corresponding antibody (anti-HBs). Of these subjects 68 were young girls in a home for abandoned children and 22 were the assistance personnel taking care of them, aged 20-70. Among the 68 residents the presence of HBsAg was high (4.4%) and anti-HBs was moderate. In the assistance personnel HBsAg was absent and the antibody incidence was much higher. The Ausab radioimmunoassay was highly sensitive for anti-HBs, while the results obtained by the passive hemagglutination method were almost as good.
